Abstract

Entering higher education is a big step for many students, however this big step brings with it challenges to be overcome, as it is a time full of uncertainties and challenges. Universities, aware of this reality, have begun to implement a closer approach with preventive and effective strategies to ensure student success. These programs include tutoring, academic monitoring programs, mentoring, among others, ensuring that the academy is ready to lend a hand in every student's journey. Academic monitoring is inspired by principles that go beyond academics; it focuses on understanding how each student learns, grows and is motivated using theories such as self-determination, social learning and academic resilience along with feedback and the use of modern technologies so that all students feel more connected and confident in their university life. In this way, academic monitoring not only improves performance and attendance, but also becomes a fundamental pillar for students' emotional well-being, helping them to thrive not only in their studies, but also in their personal lives and future careers.
