Advancement of women in the 19th century: new texts come to light andreveal the emergence of a gender consciousness in the city of Santiagode Cuba

Abstract

During the XIX century there was in our city a cultural atmosphere that favored the appearance of
different periodic publications; most literary, newsy and commercial newspapers that took charge of
disclosing the creations of those years. Publications as The Mercury, The Editor, The Album, The
Cuban Weekly publication, Prose and Verse, among other, they constitute a documental source of
incalculable patrimonial value, because they carried out an important paper like organs diffusors of
the literature so much national as foreigner, contributing this way to the cultural development of the
city. The present work presents the important rescue work, study and conservation of this documents
located in the room of Strange and valuable Fund of the Provincial Library Elvira Cape.
