Citizenship education and formation of values through reading comprehension in fourth grade

Abstract
Reading comprehension is an essential component in educational development, it facilitates access to information and plays a crucial role in the formation of values. The problem to be solved lies in the lack of effective strategies that link reading comprehension with education in values, which limits the critical and reflective capacity of students. By addressing this problem, it is intended to promote a comprehensive education that trains good readers, responsible and committed citizens. To solve this problem, it is proposed to implement complementary activities that integrate the critical reading of texts on human rights, cultural diversity and citizen participation. In this way, it is intended to improve reading comprehension and cultivate a sense of belonging and social responsibility in fourth grade students, since at this stage of educational development, children begin to understand their social and political environment, which allows them to form opinions and make informed decisions. Research offers a possibility for its treatment. That is why the general objective is aimed at designing a system of didactic activities that contributes to reading comprehension in fourth grade students at the “Nilo Antonio Bolerí Mayeta” Elementary School.
