Analysis of student dropout and strategies to increase retention in higher education institutions

Abstract
This paper analyzes the issue of student dropout and retention from a conceptual point of view. The possible causes associated with this issue are also expressed, which we have categorized as individual, academic, institutional and socioeconomic factors. Based on the analysis, possible support strategies have been proposed that could be implemented in order to maximize retention and improve educational quality, which not only goes from the academic aspect but also from the comprehensive service that a third level institution must provide. The line of research used was exploratory, since the bibliographic review technique was used to collect information and subsequent analysis. It is important to note that the strategies analyzed are also covered by the External Evaluation Model 2024 for accreditation purposes for Technical and Technological Higher Institutes.
